EXPERIENCE THE JOURNEY FROM DEATH TO NEW LIFE

From the earliest days of Christianity, the traditional celebration of Easter was one extended worship service spread over the course of three days. This was the Easter Triduum (Latin for “three days”), when Christians followed Jesus in his passage through betrayal, suffering, death, and burial, before the final triumph of the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

The Triduum starts on Thursday evening (in Biblical timekeeping, days begin at sundown) with Maundy Thursday, commemorating Jesus’ last supper with his friends. We continue on the morning of Good Friday, when Jesus was crucified. Like the disciples, we pray in our homes on Holy Saturday, when Jesus was in the tomb and with the dead. And we gather on Easter Sunday to celebrate God’s victory of life over death.

As we practice an ancient faith in a modern city, join us in observing the Triduum as a period of profound spiritual transformation—the journey from death to new life that Jesus walked, and invites us into.
